Pence finally breaks with Trump: VP refuses to join Texas Republican Louie Gohmert’s bid to stop Congress certifying Biden victory

• Vice President Mike Pence refused to sign on to a plan that would upend Congress certifying the election on January 6 for President-elect Joe Biden 
• Earlier this week, Rep. Louie Gohmert and Arizona’s slate of Republican ‘electors’ sued Pence in a Texas federal court
• They want the judge to rule that Pence can choose which set of electors’ votes to count toward the tally when he presides over Congress
• On December 14 when the Electoral College met, alternate Republican ‘electors’ also met in state capitals where President Donald Trump lost 
• Gohmert and the Arizona Republicans want Pence to be able to simply read off those votes instead, which one legal expert called ‘jaw-droppingly stupid’
